Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com October 21 news, Samsung officially released GDDR7 video memory in October 2022, a year later, Samsung in San Jose storage technology day, once again updated the introduction of GDDR7 video memory.

Samsung said in a press release that the dynamic power consumption of GDDR7 memory has been continuously improved over the past year, and the standby power consumption is 50% lower than that of GDDR6 through additional clock control.

Samsung officials say that compared with the current fastest 24 Gbps GDDR6 DRAM, which provides up to 16 Gb chip capacity, GDDR7 memory will provide a 40 per cent performance improvement and a 20 per cent energy efficiency improvement.

The first batch of products have a rated transmission speed of up to 32 Gbps, which is 33% higher than GDDR6 video memory, and achieves a bandwidth of up to 1.5 TB / s on a 384-bit bus interface solution.

Calculated at a maximum speed of 32 Gbps per pin, CTOnews.com attached the bandwidth for different bus configurations as follows:

512 bits-2048 GB / s (2.0 TB / s)

384bit-1536 GB / s (1.5 TB / s)

320bit-1280 GB / s (1.3 TB / s)

256bit-1024 GB / s (1.0 TB / s)

192 bits-768 GB / s

128bit-512GB / s

The company has also tested early samples running at speeds of up to 36 Gbps, but it is not clear whether it can be commercialized.

Samsung GDDR7 DRAM will use technology specifically optimized for high-speed workloads and will also offer low-voltage options designed for applications such as laptops that require careful power consumption.

In terms of heat dissipation, the new memory standard will use epoxy molded plastic (EMC) with high thermal conductivity to reduce thermal resistance by up to 70%.
