CTOnews.com October 20 news, according to Microsoft recently released support documentation, Win11 new Outlook will no longer support Component Object Model (COM) add-ins.

CTOnews.com Translate Microsoft Support Documentation section as follows:

In the new Outlook for Windows, Web add-ins are fully supported without additional processing by partners.

COM add-ins are no longer supported in the new Outlook for Windows version, but can continue to be used in the classic Outlook for Windows app.

COM add-ins can manipulate Outlook in many ways, but this usually causes Outlook to be unstable and crash. Web add-ins provide a sandbox environment for add-ins to run in and check and balance to ensure Outlook is more stable and robust.

There are some interface differences between COM and Web add-ins, which can provide a more consistent and stable experience for Outlook users.

Note: Classic Outlook supports Web add-ins and will continue to get the latest Web add-ins features. For Web add-ins in new Outlook and classic Outlook for Windows, we are enriching the Web add-in platform with modern features and richer integrations.

For example, automatically running add-ons when events change without interrupting users, allowing users to run add-ons to insert multiple items, run validation and remediation of items as they are sent, enhance phishing reports, provide contextual mail alerts, update mail or event details, and more.

COM add-ins provide developers with a way to extend the functionality of Office applications to perform custom tasks. COM add-ins are typically used for automatic execution in response to clicking a CommandBar button, form, or dialog box, or specific other event.
