Counterpoint said Huawei's Mate 60 Pro contributed 400,000 units in the two weeks after Apple launched the iPhone 15 series of phones. Meanwhile, sales of Apple's iPhone 15 series models fell 4.5% compared with the iPhone 14 in the first 17 days of launch, but the agency did not provide specific figures.

In addition, Apple's new iPhone 15 has not sold as expected in China, reflecting continued weak consumer demand and the rise of competitors such as Huawei, according to a recent study by Bloomberg analysts.

Jefferies analyst Edison Lee and others said Huawei had overtaken Apple in overall sales due to the unexpected debut of the Mate 60 Pro. They believe Huawei has overtaken Apple to become the best-selling smartphone maker in Greater China and predict that the trend will continue until 2024.

According to Counterpoint's forecasts, shipments of the global smartphone market will fall for the whole of 2023, reaching the lowest level in a decade.
