CTOnews.com, October 19 (Xinhua)-- GlobalFoundries was originally independent from the manufacturing department of AMD Semiconductor and is now the fourth largest professional foundry in the world, with factories in Dresden, Austin, USA and New York (under construction).

GE Core is now issuing a press release announcing that it has received $35 million (CTOnews.com Note: about 256 million yuan) from the U.S. Department of Defense to accelerate the production of silicon-based gallium nitride (GaN on Si) chips at its Essex plant in Vermont.

According to GE Core, the funding is based on years of cooperation with the US government, including $40 million in support from 2020 to 2022. The funding is expected to bring the company closer to mass production of silicon-based gallium nitride on 200mm wafers, the most advanced technology in GaN technology.
