CTOnews.com, Oct. 19 (Xinhua)-- Japanese carmaker Suzuki will start producing electric cars in India and export them to Japan as early as 2025, the Nikkei News reported Wednesday local time.

Suzuki is also reportedly considering supplying Toyota with electric cars made in India, which will be sold in the European market under the Toyota brand. At present, the Indian market has "a lot of room" for growth and has lower manufacturing costs than Japan, although Suzuki declined to comment.

In terms of details, the Suzuki electric car that will be sold back to Japan as early as 2025 will be a small electric SUV of around 3-4 million yen (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 14.7-196000 yuan).

The ▲ picture shows that after the Suzuki eVX concept car plant in India produced electric cars, Suzuki also plans to produce light electric vehicles in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, in 2026, "applying India's experience to Japan."

According to a previous report by CTOnews.com, Maruti Suzuki, an Indian subsidiary of Suzuki, is currently the largest car company in India. According to its latest annual report released in early August, the company's long-term goal is to double its annual production to nearly 4 million vehicles by 2031 by launching new models and expanding exports.

As for the electric transformation of Maruti Suzuki, the company disclosed in its annual report that production at its plant in the western Indian state of Gujarat is progressing smoothly. Production is expected to start in the autumn of 2024, the first all-electric model will be sold in 2024-2025, and there will be six all-electric models in 2030-2031. The plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 250000 vehicles and will produce fuel vehicles in addition to pure electric cars.
