Introduction: Tencent Video multi-terminal support the national standard AVS3, and recently launched a number of AVS3 format ultra-clear domestic blockbusters. This format video is based on the AVS3 coding and compression technology of Tencent Multimedia Lab. It has achieved excellent results in the latest MSU competition and can bring users a better ultra-clear experience. This also indicates that Tencent has taken another solid step in the direction of localization in the field of video codec.

On October 17, 2023, the results of the latest MSU 4K video coding competition were announced, and the TencentAVS3 encoder developed by Tencent Multimedia Lab achieved remarkable results. In the competition of H.265 / HEVC, AV1,H.266 / VVC and other encoders, as the first GB AVS3 encoder to participate in the MSU 4K track, the 1fps speed gear all five indicators are better than the H.265 / HEVC and AV1 encoders. All five indicators show that under the test conditions of the competition, the TencentAVS3 encoder can save nearly 40% bandwidth with the same speed gear compared with x265.

AVS3 (Audio Video coding Standard, audio and video coding standard) is the third generation standard of the audio and video coding standard organization of China's independent intellectual property rights. As the first video coding standard for the application of 5G+8K ultra-high definition industry, the localization standard AVS3 has technically completed the leap from following and running to leading the world. At the same time, in the context of the current era, the importance of adopting AVS3 autonomous control is self-evident. Through deep optimization, TencentAVS3 further greatly improves coding performance within the scope of compliance with the AVS3 standard. This means that the same picture quality can save more traffic than the international video coding standard H.265 / HEVC, and it also means that users can enjoy higher quality pictures under the same traffic. It is of great significance to promote the landing application of video and audio standards with independent intellectual property rights in China.

In order to enable users to experience the ultra-clear picture quality experience brought about by domestic standards as soon as possible, Tencent Video released a new version at the beginning of this month. Mobile phones, iPad and other mobile terminal devices have adapted to support AVS3. Coinciding with the National Day, Tencent Video carefully selected a number of red movies, domestic science fiction blockbusters, in the corresponding models, users can play these films, you can experience AVS3. In the upper right corner of the first online videos, users can see the watermark marked "AVS3", which is also convenient for users to perceive this video codec compression standard from China's independent intellectual property rights. At present, the number of broadcasts per week has reached the order of one million.

It is understood that at the beginning of the release of the benchmark level standard in the first phase of AVS3, Tencent Video immediately completed the link verification and deployment of AVS3, and completed the pilot verification in 2020. Then, the AVS3 standard technology continued to evolve, and the second phase of the enhancement file was completed in 2021, and the final standard finalization scheme reached the international advanced level. The cooperation between Tencent Video and Tencent Multimedia Lab is based on the latest AVS3 coding technology of MSU, and carries out a number of in-depth optimizations for Tencent Video's typical scenarios, continuously polishing the encoder performance, further saving bandwidth costs, improving picture quality, bringing a better user experience, and promoting the application of state-owned technical standards to a new level, which also marks another solid step in the direction of localization of Tencent in the field of video codec.

Tencent has long paid attention to the research and development of advanced technology and promoted the power business, and has been a deep participant and firm practitioner of the audio and video codec standards independently developed in China. It is reported that not only AVS3, but also Tencent Multimedia Lab has adopted more than 150 technical proposals in the AVS series of standards and served as the chairman of several special groups, leading the standardization of technologies including AVS3 screen content coding technology, point cloud compression technology, immersive media system, and 3D point cloud quality evaluation. In 2020, Tencent Cloud and Tencent Multimedia Lab jointly developed the AVS2 codec engine and became the first public cloud vendor in China to support AVS2 video processing services. Today, both AVS2 and AVS3 video codec engines have been applied in industries such as Tencent Cloud service radio and television. The image compression engine based on AVS2 standard also serves a wide range of businesses both inside and outside Tencent. At the beginning of this year, Tencent won the 2022 AVS Industrial Technology Innovation Unit Award.

Reviewing the history of industrialization of AVS3 independent innovation technology, in 2019, Shanghai Hayes Technology Co., Ltd., AVS Industry Alliance, Donghong Technology, Guangdong Ultra HD Video Innovation Center and Pengcheng Lab jointly released the first 8K end-to-end solution based on AVS3 standard and launched the first UHD decoder chip Hi3796CV300 based on AVS3 standard. Then, "Tianshu" encoder (also known as "uAVS3e"), SVT-AVS3 and other AVS3 coding schemes also continue to make outstanding contributions to the acceleration of the industry. At present, AVS3 has been widely used in many large-scale live broadcast events such as CCTV Spring Festival Gala, Beijing Winter Olympic Games, World Cup, Asian Games and so on by means of television, Internet and mobile devices. And as the next generation video codec specification has been successfully incorporated into the DVB standard system, it means that the AVS3 standard will be recommended to TV and video service operators around the world in the ultra-high definition industry system. In the future, the deep integration of AVS and industry will create more possibilities. It is reported that the next generation of AVS standards has begun to explore, Tencent will continue to follow.
