CTOnews.com, Oct. 18, earlier this year, MSI-EC driver was added to Linux 6.4 to allow more control over Linux system MSI laptops.

The MSI-EC driver recently ushered in a new patch to bring Cooler Boost functionality to the MSI notebook. This feature allows you to increase the fan speed of the laptop to enhance heat dissipation.

CTOnews.com found that this is a MSI-EC Linux kernel driver patch developed by the community, adding a simple "cooler_boost" switch through sysfs to switch whether to increase the fan speed. Of course, the disadvantage of Cooler Boost is that laptops are noisy.

The patch series is currently under review and, if all goes well, is expected to be available during the Linux v6.7 kernel cycle.
