CTOnews.com, October 18 (Xinhua)-- the world's first off-road solar car, the Stella Terra, completed its first travel test and successfully traveled 620 miles around the Sahara Desert (CTOnews.com Note: about 997.79 km), according to the Guardian.

The off-road solar car was built by a team of Eindhoven students aged between 21 and 25, and the whole process took more than a year.

The team designed the off-road solar car Stella Terra, which weighs 2645 pounds (1200 kilograms) and can cover 390 miles (627.64 kilometers) a day in sunny weather.

The Stella Terra Positioning is an off-road vehicle, and since there is no suitable test road in the Netherlands, the team decided to take the car to Morocco for extensive testing.

The team traveled through the rugged Riff Mountains to test the car's off-road ability and to test a very steep uphill and downhill. On the mountain trail, Stella Terra visited one of the tallest towns in Morocco before heading to the rugged sandy trails of the Sahara Desert.

Due to premature damage to the steering system, the team initially encountered some problems, but could be repaired with locally available parts.

Clarification: the efficiency of car custom converters is 97%, not solar panels. This significantly improved performance, and in the end Stella Terra was 1/3 more efficient than the team expected.
