Passkey is a login authentication file composed of a set of keys, in which the public key is used to register the website or App, and the private key is stored on the user's equipment. After the user registers Passkey, the user can use various biometric functions (such as fingerprint, iris) and PIN code on the device to log in to various website services with one click. Because PassKey is based on FIDO 2 / WebAuthn standards, it supports cross-platform use.

Apart from the fact that users do not need to remember passwords, the main benefit of Passkey is security. Because the public key and private key are separated, and the user's login credentials will be stored in the cloud and locally, it is more difficult for hackers to obtain the user's password information.

CTOnews.com has reported many times before that manufacturers including GitHub (MSFT), Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL) are all interested in Passkey recently, and their products are gradually expanding the Passkey function.

According to foreign media 9tomac, WhatsApp already hinted that its application will support Passkey this summer, and developers have now officially confirmed that this feature is officially available.
