CTOnews.com JetBrains has launched an IDE called Writerside, which is based on the IntelliJ platform and is currently in early beta, which can be used as a plug-in in the JetBrains IDE or as a standalone tool.

JetBrains claims that Writerside allows developers to collaborate on product documentation, API references, guides, tutorials, and how-to tools. The tool also features AI-based spell checking and grammar correction tools in more than 25 languages, including English, German, Spanish, and Chinese.

CTOnews.com found that the highlights of the official introduction to the tool are as follows:

JetBrains Docs-as-code pipeline This tool has a built-in Git UI, claiming that "users can focus on the most important content without designing layout and processing CSS."

Markdown and XML combined developers can inject semantic attributes or semantic elements to enrich Markdown, and Markdown elements can be converted to XML.

Doc quality automation comes with more than 100 built-in tests that allow Writerside to automatically test for broken links, missing resources, incorrect attribute values, non-unique IDs, and more. With code highlighting and validation, and built-in checks.

Live preview Documents are displayed "the way they are seen" by users, without waiting to be built.

Single-source users are able to reuse portions of content and edit it from only one location, rather than having to update each instance as changes are made.

REST API docs generation Instead of "jumping between tools" when users create user documentation and API references, API documentation can be merged into help sites, supplementing automatically generated references with manually written content.
