CTOnews.com, October 17 (Xinhua)-- Taiwan chipmaker Lijing Semiconductor is considering setting up factories worth $5.4 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 39.474 billion yuan) in about five locations, including Mitsubishi Prefecture, Japan, according to Reuters.

Lijing announced in July that it would form a joint venture with SBI Holdings, a Japanese financial company, with the aim of receiving government subsidies to build a factory in Japan. Two sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the negotiations were making progress.

A spokesman for SBI said that negotiations with the Japanese government were under way and planned to formally apply for a subsidy of 420 billion yen in the first phase.

The total cost of the plant is expected to be about 800 billion yen ($5.35 billion), and Lijing is negotiating subsidies to cover part of the cost of the first phase, according to sources.

At the same time, Lijing is looking for the addresses of five factories, one of which is Mitsubishi Prefecture in central Japan, near the Nagoya industrial center and fab plants operated by Lianhua Electronics and Japan Armor in Taiwan.
