CTOnews.com, October 17 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft has just launched a new free program for Windows developers called Arm Consulting Service (Arm Advisory Service) to help developers who need to adapt Windows applications to Arm processors.

Microsoft said in a blog post that the new Arm consulting service is an extension of the company's commitment to developers that their Windows applications can run on Arm-based Windows computers, whether through simulation or native migration. The company says it can be done with "very little work."

The blog post added:

Although we officially announced the launch of Arm Consulting today, we have been helping developers develop applications optimized for Arm for more than three years. We work with developers to share skills and best practices, and we are investing heavily and increasing support for developers. For example, our Arm consulting service has helped ISV (independent software vendors) in areas such as data loss prevention (DLP) and anti-malware product suites, providing them with code examples, code review, sharing development best practices, and debugging help.

The new service will help developers in several ways. This includes a technical workshop for answering questions and providing guidance, as well as suggestions for adding features to the Arm platform. The service will also include code samples and assistance when creating native applications or porting applications to Arm. Finally, the service will include contacting Microsoft engineers for help and feedback.

Microsoft said the new service has helped developers from Dropbox, Cisco, HP, Broadcom and other companies to create Arm-based Windows applications.

CTOnews.com noted that Microsoft's launch of the new Arm application development service coincided with Qualcomm's announcement of a new generation of Arm-based Snapdragon Series X processors designed specifically for PC. More details on the new chips will be revealed at the annual summit in Maui, Hawaii, from October 24 to 26.
