Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Alejandro86 for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com October 16 news, Bloomberg reported that TikTok failed to protect private data and was fined 345 million euros (CTOnews.com note: currently about 2.653 billion yuan) by European regulators, TikTok appealed the matter.

TikTok said it had appealed the penalty to the EU General Court and challenged locally an order issued by Ireland's main data regulator to eliminate "fraud or manipulation" that could harm privacy.

The Irish Data Protection Commission fined TikTok in September for potentially exposing minors to risky content. The investigation covered a five-month period from July 2020 to December 31, 2020 and found TikTok's data processing during this period violated the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation regarding children aged 13 to 17.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, the Irish data regulator is responsible for all investigations into TikTok, as the platform currently has an EU base in Dublin. However, given the EU-wide scope of the alleged infringement, the European Data Protection Board (the group of European regulators responsible for enforcing the law) must approve the final decision.

TikTok confirmed the appeals but declined to comment further. EDPB and Ireland's data regulator declined to comment.
