Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, October 16 (Xinhua)-- according to the "Mobile Internet connection status 2023" report released by GSMA (Groupe Speciale Mobile Association,GSM Association) a few days ago, at the end of 2022, 54% of the world's population, about 4.3 billion people have smartphones. In addition, the report also emphasizes that 57 per cent of the world's population (4.6 billion people) actively use the mobile Internet.

▲ source GSMA details Internet users, with nearly 4 billion people accessing the Internet through smartphones (CTOnews.com note: 49% of the global population). But about 600 million people (8% of the world's population) still rely on feature phones, and 350 million smartphone owners choose not to use the mobile Internet.

At the end of 2022, 69% of the smartphones used by mobile Internet users supported 4GMagol, 17% supported 5GMagne, and 14% were limited to 3G.

Although the mobile Internet base has been growing steadily, the growth rate has slowed in 2022, with only 200 million new users in 2022, compared with 300 million in 2021 and 2020.

Most of the growth came from low-and middle-income countries, where nearly 30 million people were connected to the mobile Internet in 2022, meaning that 1/4 of the population in low-and middle-income countries was already connected to the Internet.

It is worth noting that 5 per cent of the world's population still lacks broadband access, affecting nearly 400m people, and GSMA believes these "gaps" exist mainly in rural, poor and sparsely populated areas.

In addition, GSMA noted that of the 3.4 billion people around the world who are still not connected to the mobile Internet, nearly 90 per cent (3 billion) live in areas covered by the mobile network, but have "never used the service".
