As the market leader in OLED, Samsung shows that it has a big lead at present. According to the latest UBI Research report, Samsung plans to start producing the 8th generation of large OLED panels in the first half of 2026.

It is worth mentioning that the eighth generation refers to the eighth generation of manufacturing methods, rather than the eighth generation of OLED display technology, which can better meet the needs of the tablet, laptop and PC display market.

Analysts believe that Samsung display will invest 4.1 trillion won (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 22.181 billion yuan) in Gen 8 OLED manufacturing this year. Apple is one of the biggest factors driving this market shift.

According to UBI Research analysts, shipments of OLED panels will reach 7.8 million this year, but by 2024, shipments will jump to 18.8 million, the main factor behind which is that Apple will launch its first OLED iPad Pro next year.

It is important to emphasize that Samsung will use the existing Gen 6 production line to produce OLED screens for Apple, but they hope to switch to the Gen 8 production line as soon as possible, which is what it calls the 4.1 trillion won investment intention.

Analysts point out that Samsung currently shows that it is mainly competing with LG displays in OLED iPad panels, but BOE has also been trying to improve its OLED panel production capacity and quality, trying to become one of Apple's suppliers.

Samsung's investment will ensure that its display division does not lose its edge in the battle for dominance in the OLED market, or at least ensure that Samsung wins major orders for Apple's iPad OLED panels.
