Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Alejandro86 for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com October 16 news, Foxconn parent company Foxconn Group announced that today, the opening ceremony of the Hon Hai Research Institute "Ion Trap Quantum Computing Lab" was held at the Bao Gao Wisdom Industrial Park in Xindian, New Taipei City, and the first quantum computer development center in Taiwan's industry was officially unveiled. In the future, this laboratory will invest the efficient computing power needed by the new generation of AI and vehicle-related technologies.

CTOnews.com noted that the newly launched ion trap quantum computing laboratory will focus on the development of general-purpose quantum computers based on ion trap platforms and research on key technologies, including quantum manipulation, scalable computer architecture, and semiconductor chips integrated with microion traps and optoelectronic circuits.

Last year, the ion trap laboratory worked with Foxconn Group C to develop and produce the first generation of single-zone blade ion trap core. The technology will be further upgraded this year with the launch of a new generation of multi-zone ion traps, which will be on display at the Foxconn HHTD23 on October 18.

According to the official website of Foxconn, it is understood that Hon Hai Group announced the establishment of an "ion trap laboratory" on December 12, 2021. The Institute of Quantum Computing of Hon Hai Research Institute leads the development of quantum compilers and will put into the development plan of ion trap quantum computers. Officials say 5-10 bit open source, encodable ion trap quantum computers are expected to be launched within five years as a prototype of a medium-and long-term scalable quantum computer platform.
