CTOnews.com, Oct. 16, according to Bloomberg, South Korea's NAND flash memory exports increased for the first time in a year in September, further proof that the chip market demand is gradually easing.

It is reported that South Korea's NAND flash exports rose 5.6 per cent in September from a year earlier, compared with an 8.9 per cent decline in August, while DRAM flash exports fell 24.6 per cent over the same period, down from 35.2 per cent the previous month.

Chip exports in September totaled $9.99 billion (currently about 73.027 billion yuan), down 14.4% from the same period last year, but the highest so far this year. Of this total, chip exports to mainland China fell by 22.7% compared with the same period last year. Exports to the European Union increased by 56.5%, while exports to the United States fell by 30.5%.

South Korean exports of ICT products totaled $18.1 billion (currently about 132.311 billion yuan) in September, down 13.4 percent from a year earlier and the smallest year-on-year decline since October last year, according to ▲ data from Bloomberg.

South Korean ICT exports have been declining since July last year, but the rate of decline has slowed in recent months after April, indicating that the current downturn in the chip market is gradually easing.

According to Bloomberg, memory chips are South Korea's main exports, and although NAND is not as profitable as DRAM, it is still a popular choice for manufacturers of devices such as memory cards and digital cameras.
