Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Alejandro86 for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com October 16, last week Microsoft released a cumulative October update KB5031354 to Windows 11, which aims to fix all kinds of Bug and provide some functional updates. However, as always, this update also brings new problems to some users.
A large number of users reported that Windows 11 KB5031354 could not be installed on some systems and would cause file explorer and games to crash.
Among them, installation error report and circular installation is one of the most common problems, error codes include 0x800f0922, 0x80070002, 0x800f0900 and so on. Of course, after some users encounter an error, the general system will continue to download and install repeatedly, followed by a continuous cycle.
These feedback users tried a variety of solutions, but unfortunately none of them worked:
Delete the SoftwareDistribution folder.
Troubleshoot Windows updates.
Windows 11 installation Assistant.
Install manually through the Microsoft update directory.
Run SFC scannow and other system integrity checks.
It is worth mentioning that at present, some users who have installed KB5031354 will encounter the problem of file explorer crash. for example, if the user clicks the start menu and then selects File Explorer or clicks to set the application, the desktop icon or taskbar will suddenly flash, which means that explorer.exe has just crashed and then automatically restarted.
CTOnews.com warns that this phenomenon will only occur on a small number of PC and will not affect all users. We recommend that users who encounter such problems uninstall the update temporarily and choose to pause the update until Microsoft fixes it later.
According to feedback from Microsoft Forum, there are also some Win11 users who cannot start virtual machines after installing updates, but it seems that only virtual machines that turn on "secure boot" will be affected.
In addition, AMD users reported that after installing KB5031354, they found that the configuration file would be reset every time the computer was rebooted. This means that there is a conflict between Win11 and AMD, resulting in the system unable to save the AMD configuration file, so we also recommend that users who need to overclock or reduce the frequency to uninstall the update.
It is worth mentioning that KB5031354 also seems to cause some games to crash, such as call of Duty: modern Warfare Ⅱ, but this problem mainly affects Nvidia users. According to user feedback, you can see from the logs in the event Viewer that this game crash event points to the Nvidia GeForce driver, but uninstalling the update can solve the problem.
In addition, some users also said that they encountered the problem of game FPS decline. This issue only affects systems running Windows 11 October 2023 cumulative updates, which can be resolved by removing the patch.
