CTOnews.com, October 16, according to the Cochuangban Daily, the European auto giant and global automaker Stellantis Group will increase the procurement of PACK battery packs with a total size close to 5.48GWh from Honeycomb Energy, in order to accelerate the landing of its electrification strategy.

It is reported that in this cooperation, the PACK battery pack supplied by Honeycomb Energy to Stellantis uses the standard VDA cell, and the internal module level of the battery pack adds a heating film, which is located on the long side of the module, which can improve the charging efficiency at low temperatures in Europe. The two sides began cooperative contacts in 2018 and signed a global cooperation project with a total value of 16 billion yuan in July 2021.

According to 36 krypton reports, in the middle of this month, BMW invited a tender for about 160GWh battery orders at the beginning of this month, which was finally won by Honeycomb Energy, Ningde Times and Yiwei Lithium Energy. Among them, Honeycomb Energy has won orders for BMW's near 90GWh production capacity in Europe, while Ningde Times and Yiwei Lithium Energy will carve up domestic orders for near 70GWh.

Another layout of Stellantis's electrification strategy was in late September, when Samsung SDI announced plans to invest 2.7 trillion won in a joint US electric car battery factory with Stellantis, in which Samsung SDI will own 51 per cent of the new plant.

According to sources, they have not yet decided on the location of the second battery plant, but it is expected to be built near the first plant in Cuomo, Indiana. The plant is scheduled to break ground in April 2024 and begin mass production in November 2027.

When the two sides' second plant goes into production, their joint venture, StarPlus Energy, will have a total annual battery capacity of 67GWh in the United States, which it claims will power more than 1 million electric vehicles.

According to previous reports from CTOnews.com, Stellantis announced on Friday that it would cut 700 jobs at two plants in Indiana, and then said it was temporarily laying off 1340 workers in three states as a result of a four-week strike.

Earlier, on Sept. 8, the company's technical director said that the company's latest goal was to develop lighter electric vehicle batteries that would eventually halve the weight in order to improve battery sustainability.
