In the past few months, unplugging Logitech's USB receiver has caused the Linux kernel to crash. After a large number of error reports, the Linux 6.6-rc6 kernel is fixing the problem and is also marked to migrate backwards to the existing stable Linux kernel.

Red Hat's Hans de Goede is responsible for handling the error of disconnecting the Logitech USB receiver, including the kernel crash caused by the disconnection of the USB, the page_fault_oops caused by the power_supply_uevent on the USB, the crash and USB damage caused by the kernel module hid_logitech_dj, and the failure of the Logitech unified receiver.

As explained in the patch to fix the kernel crash when the receiver USB is disconnected, there are four contention issues between check time and usage time that need to be addressed.

This fix has been merged as part of this week's Linux 6.6-rc6 HID fix and will be backported to the Linux stable series in the coming days. In the meantime, if the CTOnews.com partner is using the latest Linux kernel version, do not unplug the Logitech USB receiver in the boot environment in case the kernel crashes.
