Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Alejandro86 for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, October 16 (Xinhua)-- Google Chrome has long been criticized for taking up a lot of computer resources, especially on Windows 11 or 10. However, the high memory footprint is sometimes not all Google's fault, some websites themselves consume a lot of resources, and Google browser's new features allow you to see at a glance which tabs or pages are consuming your resources.

Although it is already possible to monitor the memory usage of tabs and extensions through the Google browser's Task Manager (Chrome Task Manager), Google wants to make the process easier. Google is testing a new feature that shows how much memory the tab uses in real time when you hover over an open tab in the Google browser beta (Chrome Canary).

Of course, Google browser's new tabs are not as powerful as the built-in task manager and do not display details of running processes, tabs, and extensions. By hovering over tabs, you can only check the performance of tabs in Google browser and manually close the tabs that take up the most resources.

If you don't see this feature, you can go to Chrome://flags, enable "Memory usage on hover", and then restart the browser.

Google also provides other tools to monitor performance. For example, the performance Monitor (performance monitor) of Google developer tools (Chrome DevTool) is a better way to monitor memory usage and other key metrics such as CPU, FPS, and DOM at a high level.

CTOnews.com notes that Google has been working on a number of improvements related to Chrome performance. For example, a major update last year added two new features to Google browser, which can reduce the browser's memory usage by 40% and extend battery life when the device's battery is less than 20%.

The memory saver (Memory Saver) is now integrated into Google browser's new hover card feature, which automatically frees memory from inactive tabs to allocate more resources to active tabs and processes.
