Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen soft media users 1520111, Alejandro86 for their clue delivery! CTOnews.com Google has taken extraordinary steps with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, preventing reviewers from downloading popular benchmarking tools directly from its Play Store, including Geekbench and 3D Mark. In addition, the company has extended this block to all new users after the Pixel 8 phone was released, trying to suppress the spread of the results.

Geekbench is a popular tester for evaluating smartphone CPU performance, while 3DMark is a tester for evaluating GPU performance. Running these test software is a typical part of the evaluation process and is the basis for the evaluator to form an overall evaluation of the device based on objective data and qualitative analysis based on actual use.

Google emphasizes that the Tensor G3 chip is designed for efficiency and artificial intelligence, rather than performance alone, indicating that the company is well aware of the chip's relative lack of performance. Although some reviewers were blocked from installing these beta apps via the Google App Store, some reviewers were able to circumvent this restriction by "sideloading." As a result, Tensor G3 chip results on Geekbench, 3DMark and other test software were exposed, and these results showed that its performance was very average.

CTOnews.com noted that one of the Geekbench 6 results showed that the Tensor G3 chip on the Pixel 8 Pro phone scored 1760 on the single-core test and 4442 on the multi-core test. This is a far cry from Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which scored 2003 on the single-core test and 5427 on the multi-core test.

The Arm Mali-G715 GPU on the Tensor G3 chip also showed similar performance deficiencies in exposed 3D Mark Wild Life Stress results, and recent efficiency tests also showed that the Tensor G3 chip ranked low in efficiency, comparable to older chips such as the Snapdragon 888.

It's worth mentioning that Google even extended this ban to new users of Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones, preventing them from installing beta software. As mentioned earlier, this doesn't stop users from installing these beta apps via side-loading, but it certainly helps reduce the spread of information about performance and efficiency issues with Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones. However, Google seems to be doing this only in self-deception.
