CTOnews.com, October 14 (Xinhua) the Defense Advanced Research projects Agency (DARPA) is preparing to launch a new round of bidding for the development of an internal perceptual security program (ICS) to protect soldiers wearing military head display devices from sensory cyber attacks.

CTOnews.com Note: DARPA calls this kind of attack a perceptual attack (Cognitive Attacks), which is similar to a traditional network attack, which can lead to overload of technical resources, integration of redundant data, or network failure components, but the attack is aimed at the wearer.

Attackers take advantage of the close connection between users and mixed reality devices to completely incapacitate soldiers by displaying foreign bodies that impair eyesight, intercepting data from the gaze tracking system, displaying unreliable information, causing nausea and other symptoms of discomfort.

DARPA plans to tender for the defense system to protect soldiers from such perceptual attacks. DARPA proposes to create mathematical models, perception, action, memory and thinking of cognitive mechanisms, and to figure out how to create some kind of general protection against cognitive attacks.
