Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, October 14, India announced a new import restriction order in August this year, imposing import license restrictions on notebooks, tablets and other products. According to the latest news, the Indian government plans to abandon this import restriction.
"there will be no restrictions on laptop imports, but the government will keep a close eye on imports," Indian Trade Minister Sunil Barthwal said publicly at a news conference on Friday, according to Reuters.
CTOnews.com previously reported that India announced the import restriction strategy on August 3, which was originally planned to take effect immediately, but announced a three-month delay after pressure from various parties, followed by another one-year delay.
In an effort to boost local manufacturing, India announced licensing requirements for imported laptops, tablets and personal computers in early August, effective immediately.
India's previous regulations allow companies to import products such as laptops freely, and companies need a special license if they want to continue to sell these imports in India after the new rules come into effect.
Industry executives say the import licensing system in India means extending the waiting time for each product to enter the Indian market, especially considering applying in advance to meet sales demand during the holiday season.
When the time came on August 5, due to pressure from various parties, the Indian government announced that it would postpone import licensing measures for laptops and tablets, which will take effect on November 1 this year.
Manufacturers can continue to import laptops, tablets, PC and server devices until October 31 without applying for an additional license.
In September, India's electronics department was proposing to simplify import registration procedures, and one of the officials said the new "import management system" would require companies to obtain a "registration certificate" instead of a previously planned "license" when importing laptops, tablets and PC-a proposal that India's electronics department communicated to industry officials at a meeting on Friday.
