CTOnews.com, October 14, according to the China News Service and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and microelectronics company Jiefingfang Semiconductor Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of cooperation to set up a global R & D center dominated by third-generation semiconductors in the Hong Kong Science Park and invest in the opening of the first 8-inch vertically integrated silicon carbide wafer factory in the Hong Kong Special Administrative region.

Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Hong Kong Special Administrative region, said that the cooperation project between Science and Technology Park Corporation and Jiefang Semiconductor is the first large-scale semiconductor wafer factory to be established in the history of the Hong Kong Special Administrative region.

According to the chairman of Jiefingfang, the signing of the cooperation memorandum marks the formal launch of the third generation semiconductor silicon carbide 8-inch advanced vertically integrated wafer factory project in the Hong Kong Special Administrative region. With a total investment of about HK $6.9 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about RMB 6.445 billion), the project plans to produce 240,000 silicon carbide wafers annually by 2028, driving an annual output value of more than HK $11 billion (currently about RMB 10.274 billion) and creating more than 700 jobs for local and international professionals to come to Hong Kong, including chips, microelectronics product design, microelectronics modularization and production process development.

According to the data, Jiefangfang is a chip design enterprise focusing on the research and development of vehicle chips, mainly providing silicon carbide chips, vehicle signal chain chips, vehicle analog chips and other products for power conversion, communications and other fields.

According to previous reports by CTOnews.com, the Hong Kong Special Administrative region Government announced earlier this month that it had successfully introduced 30 innovation and technology enterprises to settle in Hong Kong, 80% of which were from Chinese mainland, and some from the United States and Britain, including Huawei, JD.com, Meituan, Lenovo, AstraZeneca and so on.
