CTOnews.com October 13 news, US broadband provider Comcast (Comcast) recently upgraded home cable Internet service, using decades-old coaxial cable, up to 2.0 Gbps peer-to-peer broadband service.

Comcast said it was the first ISP in the world to offer DOCSIS 4.0 technology to customers on a multi-gigabit network, which is powered by Xfinity 10G networks.

Comcast said that tens of millions of homes in the U.S. are currently connected to DOCSIS 4.0, and upgrading to DOCSIS 4.0 will not only improve download speeds, but also provide symmetric uploads while minimizing latency and avoiding any impact on downstream services.

Comcast has been working on this technology for years, with the goal of providing 2 Gbps symmetric service to more than 50 million homes by the end of 2025.

Comcast says it can provide customers with faster network connectivity through its existing shaft cable infrastructure without upgrading to fiber optic networks to enjoy peer-to-peer multi-gigabit networks.

CTOnews.com Note: DOCSIS 4.0 is capable of supporting up to 10 Gbps downlink speeds and up to 6 Gbps uplink speeds, and Comcast achieved 6 Gbps download speeds and 4 Gbps upload speeds in tests last year.
