Brian Wu, executive vice president of Chery Mexico, told MotorTrend that they had developed a strategy for doing business in the United States, but declined to say when it would be implemented.

"[the US market] is very important to us. We have developed a road map of how to enter the United States, but frankly, I can't reveal more information about our strategy."

This is not the first time Chery has tried to enter the US market. But he also stressed that this time will be different. "I don't want to repeat the same story," he said. "Today is different from what it used to be, different from 20 years ago."

He said it was too early to talk about new plans for the US market and that the company was sorting out its product lineup and determining which brands could enter the US market.

"will Chery go first or Exeed go first? frankly, we haven't completely decided yet. But we have a rough roadmap for the products we want to have."

As far as CTOnews.com knows, Chery's global brands include Chery, Exeed, Omoda and Jetour. Exeed is a luxury brand designed to compete with Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and all models cover pure electric, mixed-fuel models and have expanded beyond China.

He also revealed that the first cars to enter the US will include pure electric models and plug-in hybrid models. "the main [our focus] is on new energy vehicles, but maybe some models will be internal combustion engines," he added.

He believes that although the quality and safety standards of cars in the United States are much higher, Chery's products can meet customer expectations.

I believe these models (our ones in Mexico) can be put on the American market. There are no quality or other problems. But whether customers like it or not is another matter.
