CTOnews.com, Oct. 12 (Reuters)-in order to improve air quality and reduce traffic noise, Stockholm will ban gasoline and diesel vehicles from entering the main areas of the city center from 2025, the deputy mayor in charge of transportation in the Swedish capital Stockholm said on Tuesday local time.

The plan will introduce an "environmental zone" in 20 blocks of the inner city of Stockholm, covering high-end shopping malls and the most expensive local office real estate, divided into multiple levels. Among them, the three-stage environmental zone will mainly allow all-electric vehicles to drive, while trucks with plug-in power will be allowed to pass through the area. At the same time, however, special vehicles, including ambulances, police cars and vehicles for the disabled, are not subject to the regulation.

Local transport companies reportedly felt that the new plan was "too much" and believed that cities should focus on increasing investment in charging infrastructure and promoting "voluntary change" rather than coercion.

At present, measures are being taken around the world to promote the development of electric vehicles in order to reduce vehicle emissions and promote the sustainable development of transportation. However, at present, some measures are dissatisfied because they are "too radical". Sunak postponed the ban on the purchase of new gasoline and diesel cars from 2030 to 2035, relaxed the ban on new natural gas household stoves scheduled to begin in 2035, and lifted requirements for landlords to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
