Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com October 12 news, Canalys report shows that in the third quarter of 2023, the global PC market continued to rebound. Although PC shipments totaled 65.6 million units, down 7% from a year earlier, they were up 8% from the second quarter. Shipments for the quarter recorded their lowest decline in nearly a year, further reflecting a recovery in inventory levels and a rebound in related demand. Notebook shipments fell 6% year-over-year to 52.1 million units, while desktop shipments fell 8% to 13.5 million units.
Ishan Dutt, chief analyst at Canalys, said: "Despite a bad start to the year, the third quarter of 2023 brought more positive signals to the global PC market. In the slightly improved macroeconomic environment, manufacturers across the industry were more cautiously optimistic as inventory correction proved effective. As a result, all end-market demand will be better reflected in the manufacturer's shipment performance. In the last quarter of strong demand in the field of education, this quarter's head manufacturers shipments continued to pick up month-on-month. Looking ahead, Canalys expects this momentum to continue and the market to resume growth in the long-awaited holiday season.
CTOnews.com notes that Lenovo led the market in shipments of 16 million units in the third quarter of 2023, a relatively modest year-over-year decline of just 4%. Hewlett-packard came in second, growing 7% year-over-year for two consecutive quarters to 13.5 million. Dell came in third, with shipments down 14%. Apple ranked fourth, recording the biggest drop of 29% to 6.4 million units. Much of this was due to strong demand following supply chain outages in the same period last year. ASUS ranked fifth with 4.9 million units shipped.
Kieren Jessop, research analyst at Canalys, said,"As multiple factors affecting the market gradually ease, PC manufacturers are now looking to boost demand through AI. The industry has outlined the path to device-integrated AI, with HP showcasing several products at this month's HP Imagine event, and other vendors following suit. Canalys predicts that AI-compatible PCs will rapidly gain popularity starting in 2025 and are expected to account for about 60 percent of all PC shipments by 2027. Vendors and channel partners who seize this opportunity will benefit from higher prices for AI PCs and the opportunity to offer services and solutions beyond hardware.
