CTOnews.com, Oct. 11, with the upcoming release of Intel Core 14 desktop processors, motherboard manufacturers are also launching new Z790 motherboards, most of which are equipped with the latest Wi-Fi 7 wireless network cards.

Intel has released the first Windows 11 wireless Wi-Fi driver for Intel Wi-Fi 7 products, version 23.0.5.7. CTOnews.com warns that the driver is only applicable to the two Wi-Fi 7 network cards that Intel has just launched-- the BE202 and BE200.

Intel also mentioned that Wi-Fi 7 is currently unavailable because the operating system is not yet supported. Therefore, after the driver is installed, Intel Wi-Fi 7 products will be presented as Wi-Fi 6e on Windows 11 systems.

It is reported that Wi-Fi 7 will bring faster speeds, up to 2.4x compared to Wi-Fi 6e and about 4.8x compared to Wi-Fi 6. The maximum theoretical data transfer rate of Wi-Fi 6 is about 9.6 Gbps, while Wi-Fi 7 is about 46.1 Gbps, which is twice the bandwidth of Wi-Fi 6 (320 MHz channels are better than Wi-Fi 6's 160 MHz channels), which enables higher throughput (EHT) and lower latency.

It is worth mentioning that the Intel BE200 and BE202 wireless network cards are still based on the Wi-Fi 7 draft, compatible with 2x2 TX / RX streams, and support 2.4GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. Among them, BE200 has been pre-certified by Wi-Fi 7 with a maximum speed of 5 Gbit / s, which is lower than the standard transmission rate, while B202 only supports the 160MHz band and the maximum speed is only 2.4Gbps.

Intel believes that Wi-Fi 7 is ideal for high-bandwidth activities, especially in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headsets using Intel's WiGig technology.

However, IEEE is not expected to confirm the final IEEE 802.11be specification until 2025, but companies such as Intel are optimistic about the potential of Wi-Fi 7. Obviously, this optimism is also reflected in these pre-release Wi-Fi 7 controllers and adapters.

According to previous reports from CTOnews.com, the official website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially released a notice on June 1 to solicit the opinions of the State Radio Office on the approval of technical requirements and testing methods for new models of wireless LAN equipment using IEEE 802.11be technology standards. The relevant Wi-Fi 7 standards are expected to be launched soon, when a large wave of Wi-Fi 7 products will be put on the market.
