Tesla just announced that the 20 million 4680 battery has been offline in the Texas superfactory in the United States, while the 1000 4680 battery actually went offline on June 17 this year, which lasted about 16 weeks. The average production capacity at this stage is about 85500 / day.

Of course, this is still a long way from the 100 GWh annual production target of the Teslad plant, which currently has an annual production capacity of about 4 GWh.

Tesla started production of the 4680 battery after he announced the technical details at the end of 2020. Production began at the Cato Road facility near the Fremont plant in California, but with the opening of the Texas superplant, Tesla expanded the production of 4680 batteries to Texas and used them in some Model Y models in North America.

As far as CTOnews.com knows, Tesla currently only produces 4680 batteries in small batches at plants in Fremont, California and Texas. By the end of 2022, they will be able to produce the batteries for more than 1000 cars a week.

According to Tesla's estimate, 1000 million batteries can produce about 12000 Model Y models. In addition to Texas, Tesla hopes to continue to increase the production of 4680 batteries to meet the needs of other models that need to be equipped with such battery packs.

Last year, Tesla CEO officer Elon Musk said the 4680 battery would be an "important" part of Tesla's 2023 plan. Obviously, increasing the production of such batteries and bringing more 4680 battery packs into the company's electric vehicles is the goal of the future.

In fact, the energy density of the early 4680 battery is not as good as Tesla's original 2170 battery (13% lower), only 229Wh/kg (Dezhou 4680 battery is labeled 244Wh/kg, but the theory can reach more than 300wh/kg), it is not clear whether it has been improved.

For comparison, the best battery in Ningde era, the Kirin battery, was mass produced in March this year. It took only 9 months from release to mass production, with a nominal energy density of 255Wh/kg (160Wh/kg for lithium iron phosphate core) and more than 4680 batteries with a crushing advantage in volume utilization, while BYD blade batteries can reach 140Wh/kg.
