Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Coje_He for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com news on October 11, PuzzleFS is known as "the next generation Linux container file system". It is written in Rust language and has functions such as "fast image construction", "direct mount support", "memory security guarantee" and so on.
▲ source PuzzleFS GitHub page Cisco developer Ariel Miculas today released the PuzzleFS file system driver written in Rust to consult other developers, which is currently in the "proof-of-concept" stage.
CTOnews.com transcriptional Ariel Miculas introduces the characteristics of PuzzleFS as follows:
PuzzleFS is a "read-only" file system that is consistent with the design goals of Open Container Initiative (OCI) v2 image specification. It uses content definitions for chunking and content-addressable data storage to address the limitations of existing OCI formats.
There are many problems with the first version of the OCI mirroring specification. The root causes of these problems come from relying on tar archives to save layers in the file system. In fact, tar is not suitable for solving container file system problems.
PuzzleFS is designed to solve the problem of tar. The file system image itself consists of a set of files placed on the underlying file system. As with the OCI image format, there is a top-level index.json file that contains a set of tags, each representing a version of the file system, and pointing to a manifest file (manifest file). The manifest file in turn points to the mirrored configuration and data stored in the actual mirror layer. Everything else is stored as a set of blob in the blobs/sha256 directory.
Most of the data in the file system is divided into variable-size blocks (chunk), which are stored as blob with the SHA256 hash of the content as the file name. The chunking itself is performed using the FastCDC algorithm, which looks for "cut points" and divides the data stream into blob of different sizes. Any particular stream, such as the contents of a file, can be divided into five or fifty blocks, depending on how these cutting points are determined; each block then falls under blobs/sha256 in a different blob manner and adds its hash to the list.
