On October 11, the ET5T received a five-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP 2023 crash test, which is the third model to achieve the E-NCAP 2023 five-star safety rating after the ET5,ES7. For CEIBS safety standards, not only dare to lead Chinese brands to challenge the new version of E-NCAP, but also in China, the ET5 is also the annual best safety rating (AGGG) of China Insurance Research.

As we all know, the difficulty of the 2023 version of E-NCAP is "hell", and Xilai is one of the few car companies to challenge the "strictest crash test in history". E-NCAP 2023 has added post-impact distal occupant protection in the passive safety section, and the front-end structure compatibility penalty has been doubled. At the same time, in order to evaluate the operation of falling into the water, the flooding test is introduced into the test. In the pedestrian protection item, the scope of protection for cyclists is increased. In the active safety section, E-NCAP 2023 adds more than 100 active safety scenarios, while introducing a wider variety of road target types, including cars, motorcycles, electric vehicles, bicycles, adults and children. The complexity of the road traffic scene increases, including the emergency scene of pedestrians and two-wheeled vehicles crossing at the intersection, the scene of passing vehicles at the intersection, the scene of approaching the vehicle at high speed, the scene of lateral avoidance of traffic in the adjacent lane, and so on.

As a high-end family car, the price of the Weilai ET5T is the same as that of the sedan version, starting at 298000 yuan. This not only does not impose much financial burden on young people who have just entered the society and marriage, but also adds a good-looking partner to family life. But even if the ET5T has smooth and graceful body lines, a four-second acceleration of 100 kilometers, the smart driving power of the 1016TOPS, or an oversized cockpit space that is more comfortable than the SUV, it all needs to be based on the safety of the vehicle itself.

In the body design, ET5T not only inherits the sedan running style of ET5, but also strengthens the body structure after the B-pillar, and the occupant protection in the rear row is also optimized accordingly, which makes Weilai ET5T get the same five-star safety rating as ET5 in the E-NCAP 2023 crash test.

ET5T scored 96%, 85%, 83% and 81% for passenger safety, child safety, vulnerable road user safety and auxiliary safety. Among them, the two tests of side deformable barrier and side post collision are close to full marks. In the four vehicle collision tests protected by occupants, both ET5T and ET5 have achieved the best results in the history of E-NCAP cars.

In terms of passenger safety, ET5T got a high score of 96 per cent. In the previous Baoyan left and right 25% offset collision, side collision and roof strength tests, the ET5 has received a "G" rating. So even though the E-NCAP test is more stringent and has more penalty rules than before, it is not surprising that ET5T, the domestic "top student", can achieve 96% of the adult occupant protection this time, although it is a challenge.

Looking through the crash test history of all the models in Weilai, it is not difficult to find that every model in Weilai can get high marks in this test, which is inseparable from Weilai's consistent solid materials and equal treatment of global vehicle safety. Some people say, isn't safety a "pile of materials"? This is the case, but Weilai is willing to "pile up" in the security configuration, using the best materials of the same level in both visible and invisible places.

In terms of body structure, ET5T innovates the three-section parallel collision force transfer structure of Shotgun, front longitudinal beam and subframe in the front cabin impact energy absorption zone, which makes the energy transfer more reasonable. In addition, the front and rear anti-collision beams and energy absorption boxes are made of 6-series aluminum profiles, while the front longitudinal beam uses a high-intensity variable thickness laser tailor-welded plate, which combines rigidity and softness, and has excellent collision energy absorption effect, which isolates the collision force from the high-strength occupant cabin to the maximum extent. Previously, in the 25% offset collision test on the front of the China Insurance Research Institute, the head and co-driver of the Lailai ET5 got full marks with zero defects.

ET5T's passenger cabin is surrounded by aluminum extruded profile sill beam, 1300Mpa ultra-high strength thermoformed steel medium channel, and high-strength steel A, B, C columns, which are in the shape of a birdcage to protect the car body from external impact and firmly guard the integrity of the crew.

The roof strength is also one of the highlights of this E-NCAP crash test. The roof strength of the ET5 is also ranked first in the previous Baoyan test sedan. It not only has a panoramic glass canopy with a lighting area of 1.28mm, but also has a roof strength of 118.576kN, and the unilateral constant pressure coefficient is as high as 5.6times the vehicle weight. ET5 is still the strongest car in history in the roof strength test of China Baoyan. The roof strength of Weilai ET5T is stronger than that of ET5. In extreme scenarios, both ET5 and ET5T can maximize the safety of passengers in the car.

In addition, ET5T can not only ensure that the occupant structure is motionless in the frontal collision test of E-NCAP, but also maintain the maximum occupant space in the harsher small offset collision and OMDB collision test. A-pillar and the threshold are rock solid to ensure that the occupant living space will not be occupied, which is the basis of all collision safety protection.

In the restraint system, the Lailai ET5T is equipped with seven airbags, including a distal intermediate airbag and a pre-tightened seat belt. The co-pilot is equipped with super-large biconvex PAB airbags, which can provide excellent protection in all kinds of frontal collisions. In terms of safety, Wei has always been treated equally, which is different from other car companies that only meet local regulations. Whether or not they are required by local regulations, global models have unified safety standards, including remote intermediate airbags. The models of many luxury brands are only equipped with remote intermediate airbags in Europe, and once they enter the country, this airbag is strangely missing. It is a pity that some models, such as the new Model 3 or BMW 3 Series, are not equipped with remote airbags in Central Europe.

E-NCAP also spoke highly of the ET5T distal intermediate airbag: "the passenger compartment of the vehicle remains stable during a collision, providing the same level of protection for passengers of different sizes and seating positions, ensuring the safety of all critical body areas. In the side deformable barrier and side post collision, the vehicle provides good protection for all key body areas of the passengers and gets the highest score. In the side collision, the vehicle has a protective measure, namely FCA distal intermediate airbag, which can reduce the occupant injury, which performs well in the test. In the front offset and side barrier tests, all the key body parts of the two child dummies were well protected, and the vehicle scored highest in this part of the evaluation.

Now when it comes to the safety of a car, it depends not only on whether the car is hard or not, but also on whether the car is "smart" or not. Today, when the car is becoming more and more intelligent, the safety auxiliary system has also become a "required test" for all major collision institutions. With the standard Aquila super-sensing system and Adam supercomputing platform, ET5T still gets 81% in the rigorous safety auxiliary system test. In the active security part, E-NCAP has added more than 100 active security scenarios, and the test is much more difficult. On the face of it, the score is not high, but in fact, due to the increased difficulty of the test, the score of 80% is infinitely close to the full score before the implementation of the new rules of E-NCAP 2023.

Weilai ET5T comes standard with 23 safety and driving assistance functions and 33 high-performance sensing hardware, including lidar, among which seven 8-megapixel high-definition cameras are distributed in different locations of the vehicle to form a 360-degree surround vision. Lidar can quickly obtain 3D depth information with a maximum detection range of 500m. Four Orin chips provide 1016TOPS computing power to enhance active security protection and reduce potential collision risk. With active safety functions such as automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane maintenance assistance (LKA) and lane departure warning (LDW), ET5T protects every trip of every family.

E-NCAP rated ET5T as "the automatic emergency braking system (AEB) performs well in response tests to other vehicles and road users, and the system shows good or sufficient performance in response tests to pedestrians, bicycles and motorcycles."
