The Raspberry Pi 5 uses a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor with a frequency of 2.4GHz, which is two to three times better than the Raspberry Pi 4 four years ago. It also comes with an 800MHz VideoCore VII graphics chip and a Southbridge chip developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation for I / O communications.

Raspberry Pi official post now introduces the development process of Raspberry Pi 5 and a series of internal designs. The Raspberry Pi 5 is said to be the most complex and expensive project they have ever undertaken on the Raspberry Pi project, lasting more than seven years and costing about $25 million.

It is also the first flagship product to use the Raspberry Pi chip (RP1 I / O controller).

According to the introduction, RP1 is an extremely complex product, which integrates all the outward analog interfaces and corresponding digital controllers required for Raspberry Pi into a 20mm² chip (the chip is based on TSMC 40LP process).

RP1 is responsible for MIPI camera inputs and display outputs, USB 2.0 and 3.0, analog video outputs, and Gigabit Ethernet MAC; and provides sufficient 3V3 safe general purpose I / O pins and a variety of low-speed digital peripherals, as well as a standard 40-pin GPIO connector. These components are connected through the AMBA AXI architecture to PCI Express device controllers, which are then connected to the BCM2712 application processor.

In terms of parameters, the Raspberry Pi 5 provides two four-channel 1.5 Gbps MIPI transceivers that can be connected to up to two cameras or displays.

The Raspberry Pi 5 also offers support for a single-channel PCIe 2.0 interface to connect "high-bandwidth peripherals." However, the Raspberry Pi Foundation says it still requires an adapter such as the M.2 HAT (hardware connection at the top) to use.

The 4GB version of the Raspberry Pi 5 is priced at $60 (currently about 439 yuan) and the 8GB version is priced at $80 (currently about 585 yuan), both of which are $5 higher than their predecessors and will be available at the end of October.
