Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Alejandro86 for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, October 11 (Xinhua)-- Google issued a press release today saying that it successfully repelled the largest DDoS attack in history in August, peaking at 398 million requests per second, 7.5 times the number of DDoS attacks last year.

CTOnews.com Note: DDoS is a distributed denial of service attack. This form of network attack attempts to flood websites or network resources with malicious traffic, thus causing websites or network resources to fail to function properly.

In a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, the attacker sends out a large amount of Internet traffic that is actually not needed, exhausting the resources of the target and preventing the normal traffic from reaching the intended destination.

The DDoS attack in August adopted a new HTTP / 2 "quick reset" technology based on streaming, which has affected a number of Internet infrastructure companies.

This series of new DDoS attacks peaked at 398 million requests per second (rps), compared with a record peak of 46 million rps for DDoS attacks last year.

In terms of scale, the two-minute attack generated more requests than the total number of article views reported by Wikipedia for the whole of September 2023.
