CTOnews.com news on October 11, according to the latest forecast released by CCS Insight, the number of iPhone active devices by the end of 2023 exceeded 1.3 billion, of which more than 50% were second-hand models.

The forecast highlights the increasing lifespan of Apple's smartphones, with CTOnews.com learning from the CCS report that the average life expectancy of the iPhone will reach eight years from 2024.

CCS has been tracking the used device market for the past few years and claims that the iPhone is by far the most reused smartphone. "We have seen a significant increase in interest in the second-hand technology market over the past few years," said Leo Gebbie, chief analyst at the company.

Gebbie believes that the biggest reason is the lack of major upgrades in the current iPhone product iteration, although the iPhone 15 series is better than the iPhone 14 series models, but the huge price difference and relatively little upgrade power allow users to choose second-hand.

"more and more consumers will choose whether to spend 1000 pounds on a brand new iPhone 15 or 400-500 pounds on a good quality and refurbished iPhone 13," Gebbie said.
