Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com October 10 news, personalized advertising is a powerful propaganda tool. For users, it can improve the relevance of advertising, thus increasing the click rate of users; for advertisers, it can improve the return on investment; and this kind of advertising often needs to locate and show users the advertising content that is more relevant to them according to the user's access data.
To put it simply, some websites use trackers to collect users' browsing information, which will be used to improve website services and deliver content such as personalized advertisements to users. However, some trackers also send the collected information to another website.
To solve this problem, mainstream browsers such as Microsoft Edge provide three tracking protection modes: basic, balanced (default) and strict, in which strict mode blocks most trackers from all sites, so the personalized service of many advertisements is unsustainable, which may cause some sites to fail to access properly.
A large number of users have reported that Google will prevent them from watching YouTube videos if Microsoft Edge enables "strict" tracking protection mode.
CTOnews.com found that as early as May 2023, Google had been testing an anti-ad blocking experimental feature for YouTube, which would pop up when it detected that some users were using an ad blocker and would not be able to access the site unless they disabled the ad blocker or subscribed to YouTube Premium. For example, the user was reminded by a pop-up window that the video player would be terminated after three videos.
In fact, Google has been battling ad blockers for a long time, such as briefly banning ad blockers from Play stores at the beginning of 2016, but soon resumed its original strategy. But it is clear that this has not stopped there.
As Google gradually strengthens the anti-tracker, more and more YouTube users are beginning to see this warning and pop-up window, and this time even directly against the browser's optional tracking protection mode.
As we can see from the Google prompt, Google insists that "ad blocker violates YouTube's terms of service":
You may have activated the ad blocker. You must allow YouTube or turn off Advertising Blocker to continue playing video.
Advertising allows users around the world to access YouTube.
For an ad-free experience, users can choose YouTube Premium to ensure that content creators are still paid.
As a result, users have only two choices: allow YouTube advertising or purchase YouTube Premium subscription services. Fortunately, this problem does not affect all users, which means that Google is still in grayscale testing and hopes to make adjustments later.
