CTOnews.com, October 10, according to information disclosed by Crash Test, a member of the Computerbase Forum, AMD's upcoming Ryzen 7000 "Phoenix" APU based on the AM5 platform may be configured with a mixed architecture of Zen 4 and Zen 4C.

CTOnews.com Note: some of AMD's motherboard partners have begun to push the latest AGESA 1.0.8.0 BIOS firmware and have confirmed that the next generation of APU, codenamed Phoenix, is the first processor of the AM5 platform.

Crash Test found that the CPU ID of AM5 APU is different from that of the original Phoenix APU, and there is a CPU ID "00A70F52" for Phoenix Refresh chips.

Members of the forum also reported that the number of the Phoenix 2 APU was "00A70F80", which was different from the number used by the "00A70F41" of the original Phoenix APU.

This suggests that AMD may not adopt a first-generation design with only one architecture IP, and will use a mixed Phoenix core configuration on the desktop AM5 platform, mixing Zen 4 and Zen 4C cores to provide a more efficient experience within the same power / performance range.

So far, these chips have only appeared in mainstream notebooks, and the Ryzen 7000 APU may be AMD's first mixed core desktop chip.
