AFMF is a frame generator similar to Nvidia DLSS3 image sampling technology, which is used to improve FPS.

Unlike DLSS3, which is only available for RTX 40 series graphics cards, AMD has released a new Adrenalin Edition preview driver that enables AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) frame generation support for RX 6000 series graphics cards.

The technology initially supported only RX 7000 series graphics cards, but after a strong demand from users of older AMD graphics cards, the company made AFMF downwards compatible with previous-generation graphics cards.

AFMVAFMF is suitable for video, it must be associated with AFMV. After the release of the first generation of RDNA graphics framework, AMD decided to abandon Fluid Motion Video (AFMV), which can complement video frames to 60 frames for videos with only 24 and 25 frames.

AFMV, which is available only for video content, was released through the AMD Catalyst Omega driver in 2014 and is only compatible with Polaris graphics cards and some GCN1-based graphics card models.

With the release of the GCN 2.0 architecture, this feature has officially emerged as part of Radeon software. AMD then decided not to port AFMV support to the RDNA architecture.

Reddit user uncycler825 recently tried to use AFMV to watch whether AFMF can also be applied to video.

Because AFMF can be used with Vulkan API, uncycler825 combines the MPC-HC player with Vulkan through the DXVK conversion layer, puts the DXVK library in the MPC-HC folder, and then adds the player to the AMD Software Adrenalin driver, which is enabled in the AFMF application configuration.
