CTOnews.com, Oct. 10 (Xinhua)-- Google has not only promised a seven-year Android major version upgrade for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, but also said it will provide components for both phones for seven years.

"the parts supply period is seven years, which is part of our commitment," Soniya Jobanputra, Google's director of product management, said in an interview with Android Authority. "We need to provide our parts so that the hardware can be kept alive for a long time."

Although Google has not made it clear that it will provide these parts to users, it is still very likely. Not only that, iFixit is now supported and licensed by Google to provide repair parts for every modern Pixel phone, including the Pixel Fold's $900 screen.

CTOnews.com notes that California is about to enact the maintenance Rights Act, which will require companies to provide parts (as well as tools and documentation) "for at least seven years from the date of the last production of a product." The bill may not take effect until July 1, 2024, but Google seems to be ready in advance. The current text of the bill indicates that it will cover equipment sold since July 1, 2021.

Google's seven-year upgrade commitment for the Pixel 8 series of phones also includes "operating system, security and feature updates" until 2030.
