Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Oct. 10-A coolant leak occurred in the Russian Science multi-function experimental module connected to the International Space Station on Monday, local time, the Russian Space Agency said on Monday, spraying liquid coolant into space from the pipe of the spare radiator.
The Russian space agency says there is no danger to the seven crew members aboard the International Space Station. A spokesman for NASA didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
It is reported that this is the third leak of Russian equipment docked with the International Space Station in the past year. Last December, NASA had to postpone its planned spacewalk after the Russian Soyuz spacecraft that docked with the International Space Station began to leak coolant. A similar leak occurred in February this year when the Russian Progress cargo spacecraft docked with the International Space Station.
According to NASA's real-time audio surveillance of the International Space Station, mission controllers working in Houston on Monday radioed the astronauts of the International Space Station, asking if they could look out the window to see if there were snowflakes floating outside the module.
One of the astronauts later confirmed, "Yes, the radiator of the Russian Science experimental module is leaking."
The Russian Science multi-functional experimental module was launched in 2021 and docked with the International Space Station, which is the largest module owned by Russia on board. The Russian space agency said the leak was caused by a failure of the external standby radiator loop in the Science experimental module, and the main radiator loop was operating normally. The NASA Mission Control Center informed the crew of the International Space Station on Monday that NASA and the Russian space agency were working together to analyze the leak.
The Russian space agency blamed the previous two leaks on external factors such as micrometeoroids, and NASA agreed.
