Compared to the previous generation, the raspberry pie 5 has mainly improved performance and added support for PCIe 2.0, starting at $60 (currently about 439 yuan).

According to foreign media omgubuntu, Ubuntu 23.10, which will be released on October 12, will also officially support raspberry pie 5.

Foreign media said that the CPU performance of the raspberry pie 5 is three times that of the previous generation, and the GPU performance is five times that of the previous generation, so it is more suitable for daily desktop use than before.

Because Canonical developers can use raspberry pie 5 in advance, they can test the upcoming Ubuntu version on the device, identify areas where new hardware needs to be supported, and put the required new (and upgraded) software packages in the file_Feature Freeze Exceptions_to (file _ feature freeze exception _ queue).

CTOnews.com found that some of the improvements to raspberry pie 5 include:

Patch for Mesa 23.2.1 stack, new pisp package included with Mantic to handle raspberry pie 5 enhanced camera functionality

Make a major update to python3-gpiozero to match the changes made by the new model to its GPIO operation.

It is reported that the updated rpiboot software package will not be available in time when ▲ 23.10 is released, but it will not be a problem because "this is not strictly necessary".

Foreign media claimed that from a large number of submitted messages and error reports, it seems that Ubuntu 23.10 worked well on raspberry pie 5, which is a positive sign.
