CTOnews.com, October 9, according to the latest report from Techlnsights, Sony Semiconductor uses advanced image sensor technology in the Apple iPhone 15 series cameras produced by the Nagasaki factory in Japan. It is expected that Sony CIS shipments will further increase to meet Apple's CIS needs for the latest iPhone series.

▲ source TechInsights, the same report below shows that Apple uses Sony's 4800-megapixel CIS on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro series of rear wide-angle lenses, boosting Sony's share of the high-resolution market segment above 4800 pixels. Sony's 4800 megapixel IMX803 sensor was first used in the iPhone 14 Pro series last year and was one of the top 20 smartphone CIS image sensor models shipped in the first half of 2023.

In addition, Apple uses Sony's new 12 million IMX913 CIS in the iPhone 15 Pro Max series of periscope telephoto lens applications and uses Sony's IMX591 to upgrade its lidar (LiDAR).

CTOnews.com learned from the report that the smartphone image sensor market is growing at an annual rate of 2 per cent, while Sony Semiconductor increased its market share to 56 per cent in the first half of 2023. Sony, which accounts for more than 55 per cent of smartphone CIS revenue, is on track to meet its target of $8 billion in smartphone CIS sales this year.

The report also points out that given its strong reliance on Apple, Sony will continue to actively promote its CIS portfolio to other leading smartphone OEM manufacturers and their key high-end products by providing large format CIS and custom CIS solutions.
