The encoder Ali266 developed by Alibaba Dharma Institute (Lakeside Lab) won two championships in the most important 1fps class of the track, saving up to 48% bandwidth compared with the reference encoder officially evaluated by MSU, which can effectively reduce the threshold of ultra-high-definition video and promote its popularity. It is understood that Ali266 has been launched on Youku, taking the summer hit "Fengshen I: Chao Song Fengyun" as an example, using Ali266 to show the whole film with 4K quality 1.8G less traffic than before.

MSU World Encoder Competition is the most authoritative competition in the field of video compression, which has been held for 17 years. Google, Intel, Netflix and other technology companies have participated in the competition many times. The participating encoders have extensive practicability and represent the weather vane of the development of the industry. A total of 21 encoders participated in this competition, and the 10bit track was set up for the first time. After winning the 16th full HD track 8 championships and subjective track championships, Ali266 participated in the 1fps speed gear with the highest compression ratio on the 10bit track, and achieved the first place in SSIM and PSNR indicators.

Uncompressed UHD video capacity is huge, still take the movie "Fengshen I: Chao Feng Yun" as an example, if you choose 4K, 24 frames per second, 10bit bit depth of the highest definition quality, 148 minutes of the whole film data volume will exceed 7000GB, without video coding compression direct transmission and storage is almost impossible to achieve. On the premise of ensuring the picture quality, the encoder can compress the data of the original video to a few hundredths or even one thousandth.

Ye Xun, director of the Video Technology Laboratory of Ali Damo Hospital, said that this victory proves that Ali266 has excellent 10bit coding capabilities, complements a key link in full-link 10bit video transmission, and further reduces the threshold for ultra-high-definition video. Ali266 is the latest standard H.266 / VVC codec implementation scheme of Ali Damo Institute. It has complete real-time HD codec capability and has been running stably in Youku.
