CTOnews.com Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry plans to provide a total of 30.6 billion yen (CTOnews.com note: currently about 1.499 billion yuan) in funding for emerging technologies needed for electric aircraft, Nikkei News reported Sunday.

Pexels reported that the Japanese government's decision aims to support the development of electric aircraft parts and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The Japanese government will allocate 17.3 billion yen for the development of aircraft hydrogen fuel cell systems and 13.3 billion yen for the development of energy-efficient engine control systems.

Japan's Ministry of Trade is expected to present the policy at a working group of the Ministry's Governing Council.

Airbus plans to bring the world's first hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft to market by 2035. Other companies are also looking at using cleaner-burning hydrogen fuel-cell aircraft to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from aviation.
