CTOnews.com October 8, the iPhone is the first generation smartphone launched by Apple, which was officially released on January 9, 2007 and released on June 29 of the same year, and the mobile phone industry has undergone earth-shaking changes since then.

With the release of Apple's Vision Pro, many analysts have seen it as another major change that Apple has brought to the industry. But we still need to wait until the beginning of next year to see the specific effect.

In the latest issue of Power On, Mark Gurman talks about some comparisons and discussions about the future layout of Meta and Apple.

Meta (formerly Facebook) released the Quest 3-head display on September 28, priced at $499.99 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 3648 yuan), which uses a stronger Qualcomm chip, a better screen, and supports "color perspective". Quest 3 has been pre-sold and will be available on October 10.

Gurman said a Meta insider told him: "We are in the 'fear of Apple' stage"-no different from how the mobile phone industry felt before the iPhone launch in 2007.

Meta is said to have adjusted its strategy to move closer to Apple's. The upcoming Quest 3 is no longer what Zuckerberg calls a gateway to meta-universe, but a tool for games and productivity apps.

Gurman believes that the company's shift from focusing too much on meta-universe to promoting the real-world applications (games and productivity) of XR is a direct response to Apple's Vision Pro.

As the showdown approaches, Apple seems to be full of confidence in the product. By contrast, the Vision Pro will have a higher-resolution transparent camera, a stronger M2 chip and a clearer VR display, but the biggest concern for users is whether they really need the device, especially given its price of $3500 (currently about 25585 yuan).

Of course, the Quest 3 will be launched this month, while Apple's Vision Pro will be available early next year, and people who take the test first will always look more anxious.

Gurman mentioned that the development of the next generation models of the two companies is already well under way, with Apple focusing on making its devices more comfortable to wear through smaller, lighter designs, while Meta is trying to reduce the price of future products.

Although the upcoming Oculus Quest 3 is much cheaper than Vision Pro, it is still $200 more expensive than previous Meta models. The company hopes to reduce the price to its previous level of $300, which will help expand VR into a wider market.

Within Meta, the company believes it has a better gaming ecosystem. After all, the Oculus Quest 3 has a lot of VR games and apps, and the $500 price makes it more attractive to mainstream consumers.

Gurman revealed that Meta does not plan to update its glasses hardware next year (it will only provide new colors), but expects "more dramatic changes" in 2025, when the company is expected to introduce glasses with AR displays.

It is said that Meta is currently testing the screen internally, which can display text messages, map routes and current music information, but Meta has not yet decided what kind of product will be released.

Like its Quest strategy, Meta hopes to eventually subdivide its eyewear product line into low-end and high-end products-the difference is whether it has AR functionality.

As for Apple, they almost stopped working on independent AR glasses a year ago on the grounds that the technology was "too elusive". It was a considerable setback for Cook, who had made AR glasses one of his key goals.

At present, it is difficult to say whether Apple's Vision Pro will be a great success, but the industry thinks that Vision Pro may make consumers accept the AR / VR ecology in an unprecedented way.

In other words, Meta can adopt a wait-and-see attitude at this stage and adjust its product roadmap according to the features and technology Apple eventually presents to Vision Pro, as well as how it resonates with customers.
