The results show that Nicole Z 85mm f / 1.2S is one of the fixed focus lenses with the highest score so far, and it ranks first with a comprehensive score of 55 points and Nicole Z 58mm f / 0.95s Noct.

In the evaluation, DXOMARK used the Nikon Z 7 with about 45.75 million effective pixels for combinatorial testing, which is the highest pixel model in the Nikon Z series. When used with Z 7, the lens scored 55 points, which is second to none in all focal segments of the DXOMARK database, indicating its high image quality.

Sharpness

In line with many lenses today, Nicole Z 85mm f / 1.2S pays special attention to the sharpness of the maximum aperture, with a central sharpness of more than 80%. When the aperture is shrunk to f / 2.8-4, the center sharpness increases slightly, but the edge sharpness increases more significantly. At f / 5.6 and above, the sharpness will gradually decrease with the reduction of the aperture, but the uniformity of the four corners is always excellent.

Color aberration

Thanks to the use of a large number of expensive lenses (including a low dispersion ED lens), the chromatic aberration level of Nicole Z 85mm f / 1.2S is generally well controlled. At f / 2.8, although the color difference level in the center of the picture remains good, the color difference at the edges and corners will be more obvious when shooting objects with high edge contrast. However, for such a large aperture lens, this level of color difference is not strong and is within an acceptable range.

Distortion

Nicole Z 85mm f / 1.2S has some pillow distortion in the edges of the image, even for this price lens, more or less distortion is inevitable. Under the focal length of 85mm, the distortion rate of-0.3% is acceptable. By simply starting the relevant configuration file, you can fix this problem in the camera and in post-processing, without worrying at all.

Summary

The focal length of 85mm is a popular choice for portrait photography, and its high-end, fast ultra-large aperture lens is therefore respected by professional photographers and amateur photographers. Such lenses are also popular in indoor sports when autofocus is allowed. Although we can't comment on autofocus performance, there is no doubt that Nicole Z 85mm f / 1.2S has excellent optical quality.
