According to the introduction of the University of Science and Technology of China University of Science and Technology, the research team proposed a multimode integrated optical fiber in-situ detection technology that can be implanted into the battery, and successfully designed and developed a multimodal integrated optical fiber sensor, which can work normally in a high temperature and high pressure environment of 1000 ℃. This set of equipment realizes the synchronous and accurate measurement of the internal temperature and pressure in the whole process of thermal runaway of the battery, and overcomes the problem of crosstalk between temperature and pressure signals in the extreme environment of thermal runaway.

In addition, the research team proposed a new method to decouple the heat production and air pressure change rate of the battery, and found the characteristic inflection point and common law that triggered the thermal runaway chain reaction of the battery for the first time, so as to realize the accurate discrimination of the micro irreversible reaction in the battery. According to the report, this method provides an important means to quickly cut off the thermal runaway chain reaction of the battery and ensure that the battery runs in a safe zone.

Pixabay at present, battery thermal runaway has become the core bottleneck restricting the large-scale development of electric vehicles and new energy storage. The internal temperature of the battery can jump to more than 800℃ from a local short circuit to a large area short circuit, causing the battery to catch fire and explode. Therefore, predicting the hidden dangers of battery safety scientifically, timely and accurately has become an international scientific problem in the field of battery safety.
