CTOnews.com, Oct. 8, if you are a long-term mobile enthusiast, you may remember Google's Nexus mobile phone plan. In 2010, Nexus One, made by HTC, was released, and the series became synonymous with "Google Mobile". The Nexus plan includes Google-branded devices from different companies, such as the HTC mentioned above, as well as LG and Motorola. The plan even includes a phone made by Huawei, the Nexus 6P, which was released in 2015.

In 2016, Google changed its strategy and replaced the Nexus phone with a new series of Pixel phones. Now that we are in 2023, the Pixel 8 series has just been released this week.

CTOnews.com noted that CTOnews.com sold 37.9 million Pixel phones from 2016 to 2023, according to a tweet by Francisco Jeronimo, vice president of data and analytics at IDC. By contrast, Apple sold 9770 million iPhone units in the first two quarters of 2023 alone. Still, Pixel is often seen as Google's product against iPhone.

In fact, sales of Pixel phones are growing, and Jeronimo points out that sales have been growing at double-digit rates over the past few years. According to data, about 1000 million Pixel phones were sold last year. Now that Google has expanded its Pixel ecosystem to include Pixel Watch, Pixel Tablet and Pixel Buds Pro headphones, Pixel phone sales are likely to continue to grow.

In the US, the Pixel line of phones was the only one of the top five brands to show year-on-year growth in the second quarter, with deliveries of Pixel phones up 48 per cent in the quarter.
