CTOnews.com, Oct. 7 (Xinhua)-- Ford Motor Company announced Friday that it will cut another 495 jobs as a result of a strike by the United Auto Workers (UAW).

Tuyuan Pexels employs 371 people from the Cleveland engine plant in Ohio. Another 94 employees from the Lima engine plant in Ohio and 25 employees from the Stirling bearing plant will be laid off from October 5 to October 9. That brings the total number of layoffs since the strike began last month to 1794.

"although we are doing everything we can to avoid layoffs, we have no choice but to reduce the production of parts that are supposed to be shipped to factories that are on strike," Bryce Curry, Ford's vice president of manufacturing and labor affairs, said in a statement. Strike-related layoffs are an unfortunate consequence of UAW's strategy.

Ford Motor Company has made seven offers to its striking workers, the latest of which is to set wages at the top 25% of all jobs in the United States, including hourly and salaried workers. The offer also includes job security, product commitments and benefits.

Jim Farley, president and CEO of Ford Motor Company, said in a statement: "there is no doubt that our UAW employees carried us on their shoulders during the epidemic, and these same workers and their families were also hit hard by inflation. We want to make sure that our workers get two things in this negotiation-a record contract and a strong future. We have put a very expensive offer for the company on the table. "

UAW has been on strike since Sept. 15, and its last strike was in 2019, when it lasted six weeks and cost GM $3.6 billion (CTOnews.com Note: current about 26.316 billion yuan). This time, the union is up against the big three Detroit automakers: Ford, GM and Stellantes.

The UAW union has 400000 members in the United States, and only some of them are currently on strike.
